Prof. Dr. Martin Welp

Martin Welp is Chair of Socioeconomics & Communication at  Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, Germany.

His research interests encompass sustainable management of natural resources, stakeholder assessments and dialogues, and more broadly the socioeconomic dimensions of a sustainability transition.

Research has focused on protected areas, in particular Biosphere Reserves, and in recent years, increasingly on institutional dimensions of provisioning key ecosystem services in urban and peri-urban areas.

The key question is how a sustainability transition can be fostered by investments in green infrastructure, climate compatible development and by more effective communication among sectors and actors. Recent projects have taken place in particular in China, Central Asia as well as South Asia with focus on the Urban-rural nexus.

Prof. Welp is Head of the International Master Study Programme Global Change Management, in which MARISCO applied as the conceptual and methodological framework for teaching future change agents.

The depiction of human-wellbeing, global actors and social systems is at the core of learning with MARISCO. The identification of leverage points for strategies and implementation of change management follow as action oriented steps.
