In September 2009, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, with funding provided by the Brandenburg Ministry for Science, Research and Culture, awarded one of the first research professorships to Pierre Ibisch, professor for nature conservation.

This research professorship "Biodiversity and natural resource management under global change" significantly contributed to the foundation o the Centre for Econics and Ecosystem Management. It was renewed in 2012. 

From September 2015 onwards, Pierre Ibisch was rewareded an Extraordinary Research Professorship "Ecosystem-based sustainable development".
